It seemed pretty clear that Apple was not going to allow any real players in VioP/phone management area into the iPhone. Ok, we have all heard the story.. if you have not, look here..  But have a look at this press release..

HOLMDEL, N.J., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Vonage (NYSE: VGNews) has announced that Apple approved its mobile application for iPhone and iPod Touch. Vonage is currently conducting a beta test and general availability will be announced at a later date.

This new service, along with the recent launch of the Vonage World unlimited calling plan, continues Vonage’s heritage of using innovative technology to create significant value for its current and future customers.

Of course, we have no idea what its actually going to do, but last I checked Vonage was VoiP and phone number management.  So what gives?  Is this another AT&T like deal where Apple picks 1 winner and gets a kickback (read profile share)?  Perhaps Google was a little TOO big for Apples comfort. Android phone anybody?   Yea, its going to be reeeeally interesting once this app hits the store.

P.S.  I should add that I do think its plus odds that the google app will return.  Remember ‘after’ the outcry, Apple said, oh, its still under review.
