I have both a USB3 external hard drive and thumb drive and since updating to windows 8.1, they have not been working correctly. The external hard drive does not work at all on the USB 3.0 port and the thumb drive is very slow.\u00a0 I have been doing a lot of research and trying many of the suggestions provided, but nothing seemed to work.\u00a0 Then yesterday, finally found the solution to the slow USB 3 port.\u00a0 Change the power saving setting in the Control panel.\u00a0 The following was a post for the Thinkpad T430, so I guess this is fix for anything using the same hardward as the T430 and the Yoga13 Ideapad.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The\u00a0&#8220;USB selective suspends settings&#8221; option in the Power Options may be Enabled.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, type <em>Power Options <\/em>in the <strong>Search <\/strong>box and then click\u00a0<strong>Power Options<\/strong>\u00a0from the\u00a0returned\u00a0list<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Change plan settings <\/strong>for the selected Power plan<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Change advanced power settings<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Expand <strong>USB settings<\/strong> and then <strong>USB selective suspend setting <\/strong>and change the setting to <strong>Disabled<\/strong>\u00a0for the option for\u00a0<strong>On battery:<\/strong> or <strong>Plugged in:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> on the <strong>Power Settings<\/strong> window and click <strong>Save changes<\/strong> on the <strong>Edit Plan Settings <\/strong>window\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong>\u00a0This is a default power setting , disabling this setting\u00a0will cause additional battery power consumption when your\u00a0mobile PC is in Sleep\u00a0or Hibernation mode and unplugged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I recommend that you only do this for the plugged in setting.\u00a0 If you are on battery, you may want to keep this enabled unless you need the higher speeds.\u00a0 If so, you can turn it off, pull or push the files you need, then turn power saving back on.\u00a0 Good luck!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/usb3-slow-port-fix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9532\" src=\"https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/usb3-slow-port-fix-300x155.jpg\" alt=\"usb3 slow port fix\" width=\"300\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/usb3-slow-port-fix-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/usb3-slow-port-fix.jpg 942w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"SPOSTARBUST-Related-Posts\"><H3>Related Posts<\/H3><ul class=\"entry-meta\"><li class=\"SPOSTARBUST-Related-Post\"><a title=\"How to fix minor rim scrape on a Tesla 3 and the 3-6-9 rule\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/2018\/05\/how-to-fix-minor-rim-scrape-on-a-tesla-3-and-the-3-6-9-rule\/\" rel=\"bookmark\">How to fix minor rim scrape on a Tesla 3 and the 3-6-9 rule<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"SPOSTARBUST-Related-Post\"><a title=\"Now thieves are use Amps to steal your car.
