{"id":849,"date":"2008-12-22T20:59:02","date_gmt":"2008-12-23T04:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/?p=849"},"modified":"2009-01-18T14:00:04","modified_gmt":"2009-01-18T22:00:04","slug":"iphone-golftraxx-gps-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/2008\/12\/iphone-golftraxx-gps-fail\/","title":{"rendered":"iPhone, GolfTraxx, GPS&#8230; FAIL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So far, I have been pretty happy with each GPS app I&#8217;ve tried for various tasks; data logging when I bike or run, remembering where my car is, even logging my position when I twitter.\u00a0 So when a friend of mine called me up for a last second game of golf in the middle of December, which of course I said yes, I thought this would be good chance to try out a few apps I&#8217;ve downloaded for golfing.\u00a0 Boy, FAIL city, here I come.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-851 alignright\" title=\"img_0023\" src=\"https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/img_0023-200x300.png\" alt=\"img_0023\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/img_0023-200x300.png 200w, https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/img_0023.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First app I tried was GolfTraxx.\u00a0 When I first downloaded it, it looked like a good app. You type in you zipcode, a set of courses show up, and then you hit start.\u00a0 Great!\u00a0 I&#8217;m on the first tee, and this is what I see.<\/p>\n<p>23k yards eh?\u00a0 Time to break out Big Bertha!\u00a0 Whatever.. So I get 270 at the top, but 22913 yards to the tee target.\u00a0 Huh? Ok, well, perhaps I should just try another app.\u00a0 I had bGolfMemoir loaded.\u00a0 So on the 2nd hole, I gave it a try.\u00a0 FAIL at step one.\u00a0 It could not even find the golf course.\u00a0 At this point, I was getting pretty mad, but I gave it one more try..\u00a0 as I walked to the third hole, I downloaded Plum Caddy.\u00a0 Since I had to read the description on this quickly, I did not pick up that you had to put the course information in yourself.\u00a0 Grrr..<\/p>\n<p>Forget it.\u00a0 Next time I play, I&#8217;ll give GolfTraxx another try and disregard all info short of what I read on the top and see what happens.<\/p>\n<p>On the plus side, my friend I went golfing with was have a great round.. UNTIL, 2 ladies who joined us offered him a small drink ( a sip really) from her &#8216;deadly sins&#8217; flask.\u00a0 After the sip, he tee&#8217;ed up and almost completely missed the ball on his drive!\u00a0 The ball took off at 35deg to another hole&#8217;s tee.
