{"id":3338,"date":"2010-09-16T11:47:10","date_gmt":"2010-09-16T19:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/?p=3338"},"modified":"2010-09-16T14:10:59","modified_gmt":"2010-09-16T22:10:59","slug":"sweet-platform-for-writing-iphoneipadandriod-apps-without-knowing-coco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/2010\/09\/sweet-platform-for-writing-iphoneipadandriod-apps-without-knowing-coco\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweet platform for writing iphone\/ipad\/Andriod apps without knowing CoCo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We all know about Adobe returning to work on porting an app written in CS5 thus using ActionScript.\u00a0 But its not out yet.\u00a0 And may not be out for a bit as I comment on my post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.perivision.net\/wordpress\/?p=3318\">Adobe getting back to work<\/a>.\u00a0 However, if you just cannot wait, there is another option. <a href=\"http:\/\/anscamobile.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Corona<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>The tool is from a company called Ansca and it lets you build apps for iOS and Android.\u00a0 Sounds like something Adobe would have done??\u00a0 Your right because the company is full of Ex-Adobe people who where working on the flash lite and port to mobile program, so they may know a thing or two about what they are doing.\u00a0 I have tried this myself and its pretty good.\u00a0 However, its not in ActionScript, the platform is Lua.\u00a0 I do not have much experience with Lua, but its pretty close to JavaScript \/ ActionScript so I was not as lost as I was when starting with CoCo.\u00a0 So why Lua, I asked Walter Luh, the Co-founder\/CTO, Ansca Mobile.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We chose Lua because no other scripting language on the planet offers  the combination of speed, portability, and compactness.\u00a0 Lua is the most  portable VM on the planet.\u00a0 Lua has a proven track record in building  world class apps and games from World of Warcraft and Adobe Photoshop  Lightroom on the desktop to Tap Tap Revenge and Angry Birds on the  iPhone.\u00a0 Lua is also remarkably fast and is often the benchmark by which  other scripting languages compare themselves.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Personally, I think its because his last name sounds like Lua&#8230; But he denies it. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>The applications you can write are pretty sweet with a full blown physics game engine underneath.\u00a0 Check out some of the videos at the end of this post.\u00a0 So the big new is that Corona is out of Beta and ready to roll!\u00a0 Here is the press release..<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Ansca Mobile launches <em>Corona SDK<\/em> and <em>Game Edition<\/em> toolkits for cross-platform mobile app development<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><strong><br \/>\nPalo Alto, CA | September 16, 2010 | <\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anscamobile.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ansca Mobile<\/a><\/span> today launched the upgraded <em>Corona SDK<\/em> and <em>Corona Game Edition<\/em> toolkits for mobile app and game development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Corona SDK<\/em> (software development kit) adds cross-platform capabilities to the previously iPhone-only <em>Corona <\/em>toolkit. \u00a0Developers now can use <em>Corona <\/em>to build apps for iOS and Android devices from the same set of code, saving considerable time on recoding for different mobile platforms. \u00a0On top of that, <em>Corona SDK <\/em>automatically scales graphics for each separate platform, saving users the time and effort of manually rescaling their assets between devices.<\/p>\n<p><em>Corona Game Edition <\/em>includes the same cross-platform capabilities as <em>Corona<\/em> <em>SDK <\/em>with expanded features for building more demanding mobile games. \u00a0<em>Game Edition<\/em> touts<em> <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.openfeint.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">OpenFeint<\/a> integration for easily adding social networking capabilities to games, sprite sheets for advanced texture handling, and a full-fledged physics engine. \u00a0Last month, OpenFeint even featured <em><a href=\"http:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/app\/doodle-dash\/id382456881\" target=\"_blank\">Doodle Dash!<\/a> \u2013 <\/em>an iPhone game made with a beta version of <em>Game Edition \u2013<\/em> as their <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.anscamobile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/OpenFeint-FGOTD.png\" target=\"_blank\">Free Game of the Day<\/a>, helping it net over 160,000 downloads and a spot on the App Store\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.anscamobile.com\/2010\/08\/corona-made-doodle-dash-breaks-into-app-stores-top-25\/\" target=\"_blank\">Top 25<\/a> list of most downloaded apps.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><em>Corona SDK<\/em> is available now for $249\/year, and <em>Corona Game Edition <\/em>is available for an introductory price of $349\/year.
