So over the last 24-48 hours we have been hearing reports on various iphone 4 issues as well some horror stories around updating phone 3g(s) to iOS4. All good and fine, bugs happen.\u00a0 But my BIG hope, was that the new antenna design would finally take care of all the dropped calls we have been getting with AT&T.\u00a0 Or reduce them at least.<\/p>\n
Seems like it may be neither based on what I have heard so far… based on how you hold the phone.<\/p>\n
In general, the antenna is bigger and on the outside of the phone.\u00a0 So right off you would think that reception would be better, and thus fewer dropped calls unless holding your hard around the antenna causes issues, which I wrote about a few days back on my post called ‘Will the iphone 4 with the new antenna layout reduce dropped calls?’<\/a> and its seems my concerns around attenuation have been confirmed with this video that went out yesterday.\u00a0 (video at the bottom of the post)<\/p>\n Now here is the fun part.\u00a0 Steve Jobs answered back an email on this subject and he’s replay was basically, do\u00a0 not hold it in a way to reduces reception or put it in a case.\u00a0 Sigh.\u00a0 Great.\u00a0 So I have to wonder… did anyone TEST for this?\u00a0 I mean I wrote about the possibility of reduced reception based on how you hold the phone almost more then a year ago in a post called ‘Four Tips to Reduce Dropped Calls for the iphone 3G\u2026 again<\/a> So its not like it was not a know issue.\u00a0 And if they did know about it, whey were they not upfront and simply say, hey, to get better reception, please do not hold it this way or AT LEAST include a simple case to protect against attenuation.\u00a0 Sadly, neither.\u00a0 So we have yet to hear anything about the antenna reducing dropped calls.\u00a0 But, only time will tell.<\/p>\n Now as promised, the video showing just how bad the attenuation can be…<\/p>\n
