I’m not a runner and I’ve stopped my regular runs a few years ago. But a reader pointed out Fitnio to me, so I thought I would give it a shot on a run instead of biking as normal.

Fitnio is like most other free GPS loggers out there I have used; but what is nice is it take your BMI into account by asking your height and weight. So with that information the program will calculate the amount of calories you burned during your run or ride.

Now there are issues with the app. For whatever reasons, it does not seem to play nice with the apple OS input widgets. I’m gussing it may be because its trying to update data in real time to the site. I’m sure it will get fixed sooner or later. Also missing, the ability to download raw data.

  1. Yeah I’ve been using Fitnio for a little while now.
They are the only iPhone fitness app that calculates the number of calories burned.

    It is awesome!

  2. Funny, you would think other apps would include calories burned, it cannot be all that hard to calc. :)

  5. RE: Jeff. ORly? What have you used? I would be curious to check them out. I’ve reviews a few other apps, check the Category ‘Data Logger’ Should bring them up.
I may do a complete survey of all free gps data loggers at some point. :)

  6. Hi – I’m Robby, one of the founders of Fitnio. Thank you for the write-up and review.

Can you send a bit more detail about the input issues you experienced to support@fitnio.com? Also, what kind of raw data export would you like to see? We’re always looking for ways to make Fitnio better for our users, so any suggestions are always appreciated.

    Enjoy your runs and rides!

  7. Hey Robby, glad to meet you. I’ll send an email with my issue with Fitnio. As for added feature … Raw data. Have a look at the end of this post where I looked at another app…

With the ability to access raw GPS data, a user can input to other mapping applications or make their own charts. As for myself, I would want the ability to clean my data.

Recently the run that I just finished is not updated on the website. Has something changed?

  9. Hmm… I have not used it in a while. I'll try it on my next ride. Did you confirm it got uploaded?

  10. I just used Fitnio on my ride. Worked fine. Uploaded correctly.

  12. [...] iMapMyRide is a free GPS logger with a companion web site like TrailGuru or Path Tracker. Like these apps, the application takes GPS samples and logs them on the iPhone.  After the ride (or run) you can upload these points to a website which will map the information as well as calculate speed and elevation change. They also have a calorie calculator like Fitnio. [...]
